About BRES Counseling Department

About Bristow Run's School Counseling Department

Our school counseling department is an award winning program that delivers a comprehensive, developmental program that is aligned with the American School Counseling Association National Model ® and is organized to ensure accountability. Our counselors are educators who are specially trained in childhood development and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff to help ensure success for every student. Programs are analyzed for effectiveness and decisions are made on how best to provide students with knowledge and skills in the areas of academic, career and social/emotional development. We teach lessons, offer small groups, and provide individual counseling.

At Bristow Run, the school counseling program is an integral component of the academic mission of the school. We work hard to build relationships with students and families to help all students succeed.

School Counseling Mission Statement

The mission of the Bristow Run Elementary School Counseling Program is to promote all students' social, emotional, academic and career success in a comprehensive data-driven program that provides a safe, respectful, accessible, and equitable school environment. In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate positive interaction amongst the support system to ensure all students are prepared with the knowledge and skills to thrive at the highest level as critical thinkers, responsible digital citizens, and global collaborators.

School Counseling Vision Statement

Through participation in the Bristow Run Elementary school counseling program, students are responsible, lifelong learners and leaders ready to enter the work world, pursue advanced educational opportunities, and are on track for a thriving future.

The following principles are the foundation for the school counseling program:

· All students' cultural differences, developmental stages, and special needs are considered in planning and implementing the school wide program.

· There is a collaborative effort among the school counselors, administration, and teachers to coordinate with parents and the community so that each child has the skills necessary to become a productive member of society.

· Various assessments are used to develop and continually evaluate the effectiveness of the program.

· Classroom lessons taught by the counselors and school wide activities center on ASCA standards in Academic, Social/Emotional, and Career development.

- School Counselors function as advocates for all students and leaders among school staff. They adhere to the ethical standards set by the American School Counselor Association.

· Data generated in and out of the Counseling Department are reviewed jointly by the counselors and administrators. A cycle exists which consists of gathering data, planning interventions, and evaluating those interventions.
