This upcoming week we will finish our unit on Measurement. We will continue to work on conversions in both US and metric length throughout the week. We will continue capacity (liquid volume) and finish the week with elapsed time, review, and our end of unit test.
This week we will wrap up our Reconstruction unit with some review activities. The test is this Friday March 31st. Next week we will focus on 20th century and Virginia State government. Please continue to use solpass.org at home to study for upcoming units as well as review for old units. We have begun using our Core Extension time to review for our VA History SOL which is May 3rd.
New History and Social Science Standards to be implemented in the 2017-18 school year. In 2015, the Virginia Department of Education adopted new standards in history ...
We will not be having any formal unit studies until after our May 3rd VA History SOL. This extra time block will be used to finish up teaching VA History and to prepare for our SOL. We will have a field trip to Silver Lake Park on April 20th to review 3rd grade objectives on Ecosystems before starting this unit after our VA Studies SOL.
We will begin our next unit called drawing conclusions. This incorporates using the students’ ability to make reasonable predictions and inferences based on clues from the text. After spring break we will wrap up this unit and begin our SOL review.
We will continue to work on writing through Social Studies and Language Arts at this time.
Students continue to be antsy with just two weeks left of school before Spring Break and with the Boosterthon coming this week. Please review with your student that they are at school to learn and that is their top priority. Excessive chatting and not following directions will result in yellow behavior slips or parent emails. Mrs. Gorham and I would love to pass out more bucket fillers than yellows this week.
As the weather begins to get warmer it is important to remind students about good hygiene. We have been reminding them to take showers more often, especially on PE days. As fourth graders, we are also encouraging them to discuss with you the option of beginning to wear deodorant. This is a great habit to get into now as some of them are beginning to notice they become stinky after PE class and playing outside in warmer weather.
