BRES RED RIBBON WEEK ANNOUNCEMENTS

MONDAY:  Hi!  My name is ______and I am in ________ class.  Bristow Run Elementary is proud to be involved in Red Ribbon Week which is a week to make healthy and positive choices.  To kick things off, we are going to start with talking about the importance of eating fruits and vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables are delicious and provide healthy nutrients for your body. At each meal, half of your plate should be made of fruits and vegetables. Your challenge for this week is to add more fruits and vegetables to your plates. Another challenge is to wear RED tomorrow to support making healthy choices!  Hope to see everyone wearing RED tomorrow!

TUESDAY: Hi!  My name is ______and I am in ________ class.  Today is day 2 of Red Ribbon Week.  I’m wearing red today.  Are you?  Today we want to talk to you about the importance of breakfast.  Did you eat your breakfast? Breakfast is an important meal! It prepares your body to start the day. Make sure you eat your breakfast every day! Tomorrow we will have Team up for Healthy Choices Day!  Wear something from your favorite sports team.

WEDNESDAY:  Hi!  My name is ______and I am in ________ class.  It’s Day 3 of Red Ribbon Week! Today we are going to talk about the importance of drinking water. Did you know our bodies can go three weeks without food, but we can only go three days without water? We need to drink at least eight glasses of water each day. If you want to try something new, you can add lemon, lime, berries, or other fruit to your water for extra flavor. Your challenge is to try and drink lots of water each day!  Tomorrow we will have “Pair up for healthy choices Day!”  Find a partner and dress up like twins for the day OR wear a pair of crazy socks.

THURSDAY: Hi!  My name is ______and I am in ________ class.  It’s already Day 4 of  Red Ribbon Week! Today we are going to talk about the importance of getting enough sleep.  Our bodies have a natural clock inside. It tells us that when it’s dark, it’s time for our bodies to rest. You should be getting around 10 hours of sleep each night.  We challenge you to turn off your TV or electronics a couple of hours before bedtime to let your body relax and prepare for a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow will be “Our school makes healthy choices School Spirit Day.”  Wear school colors (purple and teal) OR a Bristow Run shirt.

FRIDAY: Hi!  My name is ______and I am in ________ class.  It’s the fifth and final day of  Red Ribbon week! I hope you’ve been making some positive and healthy choices that will continue throughout the year!  Today, we are going to talk about stress. There is good stress and bad stress. One of the best ways to handle stress is to take deep breaths.  Mrs. Leischner tells us to think about inhaling like you’re smelling a bouquet of flowers and exhale like you’re blowing out birthday candles on a cake!  If you are feeling stressed, it’s also a great idea to take a walk, color in a coloring book, or take part in an activity that makes you happy. Think about some other ways to handle stress and try them this weekend! We are proud of you for getting active and making healthier choices. We encourage you to keep these healthy habits going!
